Amelia Wood is a British Artist, currently living and working in the UK. A multi discipline artist, Wood’s practice spans across sculpture, drawing, textile, sound and performance to create a bricolage of installations. Her work is an exploration through different materials, manipulating matter to create strange and surreal artworks layered with references to the body, design, projections of the mind and merging the mundane.

Wood’s tactile approach to her practice offers a personal and raw aspect to the ‘unsugared’ work, by revealing the seams of construction and the visible hand of the maker. Using sculpture, textile, drawing and symbolic objects, Wood creates a performative platform, using the audience to interrupt the work by becoming a part of it. Renowned for setting up static scenes of unease, as anthropomorphic forms tempt to lick, spit or shout on the viewer. The work looks at us as much as we look at it.

Amelia Frances Wood graduated from Leeds Arts University and is living and working in Leeds. Wood is a studio holder at Assembly house, an artist led gallery and art studio space located in a Victorian, textiles mill alongside Leeds-Liverpool canal. Winning the Aon Community Art Award, the year-long programme involves exposure through an exhibition featured at the Leadenhall building from October 2019 to October 2020, with an award ceremony, auction and opportunity for a residency in Tuscany concluding the programme. Wood has recently embarked on a new body of work with the support of The Art House Wakefield during the graduate residency programme. Wood is also part of Ones to watch 2020 at Sunny Bank Mills in March.
