Amelia Wood is a British Artist, currently living and working in the UK. Her practice spans across sculpture, drawing, textile, sound and performance to create a bricolage of installations. Her work concerns theories of perception, categorisation, attitudes and control.
A tactile involvement with material, stems from Woods’ core concerns of retaining the hand of the maker, using traditional techniques to dominate over traditional perspectives and liberate suppressed social narratives. Wood characterises the seams of construction within her work, revealing the visible processes of making. Compelling her most recent works exploring the malleability of meaning, using objects and materials to disrupt conventional perceived assumptions of values, and perceptions.
Amelia Frances Wood graduated from Leeds Arts University and is living and working in Leeds. Recently winning the Aon Community Art Award, the year-long programme involves exposure through an exhibition featured at the Leadenhall building from October 2019 to October 2020, with an award ceremony, auction and opportunity for a residency in Tuscany concluding the programme. Wood is currently embarking on a new body of work with the support of The ArtHouse Wakefield residency.
